'Vezelay: This Life / That Life' is a self-portrait--a photographic memoir of my remembered past in 12th century France. In present day, I have always dreamt of France--of visiting her and living with her, as an outsider looking in. This basilica in Vezelay, dedicated to Mary Magdalen, provided the doorway for this story. This was the world I had longed for, to live in, between Heaven and Earth. In this place I could explore a religious world of spirit, sex and death.
